Appeal for witnesses following attempted murder in Newcastle-under-Lyme
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses as they investigate an attempted murder in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
They were first called to Newcastle Road, Madeley, at 9.46pm on Monday (1st May) following reports of a man acting suspiciously.
A short time later, a woman in her 50s was found with serious facial injuries and rushed to hospital. Her condition is still critical at this time and specially-trained officers are continuing to support her family.
The 20-year-old man from Newcastle-under-Lyme who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder is still being questioned about the incident in custody.
Detective Inspector Adrian Webb, from our Major Investigations Department, said: “A cordon is still in place at a home on Newcastle Road whilst we continue to find out more about what happened on Monday night.
“I’d like to thank those who have already come forward with information and to the local community who have been engaging with officers at the scene.
“Forensic work and search activity will continue to take place across the location whilst we investigate all of the information we have available at this time.
“We realise that there could still be a number of witnesses or people with information which can help us with our investigation, in particular those who may have CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage from the area.”
Those who were in the following areas between 5pm and 10.15pm on Monday (1st May 2023), either on foot or driving, are asked to get in touch if they have any information:
- A525, Newcastle Road
- The junction of Moss Lane, near the fishing pool, through to the junction of Mill Lane
- Bevan Place and Lindops Lane
