Firefighters tackle 35-tonne waste blaze in Burslem
Firefighters have extinguished two separate fires involving 35-tonnes of waste at a recycling plant in Stoke-on-Trent.
Just after 2am on Saturday (4 February), they received reports that an industrial building containing waste was well-alight in Burslem.
Fire crews from Sandyford, Hanley and Cannock attended the scene – equipped with breathing apparatus and hose reel jets – to tackle the blaze.
By 5.50am, the fire had been brought under control without causing any injuries to anyone in the area.
It was estimated that around 35-tonnes of domestic waste was inside the building – although not all of it was alight at the time.
Then, at 8.15am, crews began tackling a second fire involving a waste bay. It was quickly extinguished and crews remained at the scene to check if any hotspots were left.
The cause is currently being treated as unexplained while inquiries continue.
