Newcastle-under-Lyme Record Fair (26th July 2020)

An historic market in Newcastle town centre is opening on a Sunday to stage an event for music fans.

Newcastle-under-Lyme Markets and Cannonball Records have teamed up to organise a record fair which is taking place on The Stones for the first time on Sunday, 26 July from 10am to 3.30pm.

There will be thousands of records and CDs from dealers across the UK specialising in genres such as classical, folk, jazz, metal, pop, rock “n” roll and soul. Visitors can enjoy trawling through more than 25 tables of musical bargains and rarities with everything from Abba to Zappa before treating themselves to some delicious food and drink.

Cannonball Records, based in Longton, have decades of experience in the collectable vinyl record market and have held many events in the Midlands, Staffordshire and Shropshire.

Owner Dave Hawkins, a regular shopper on our antique and collectibles markets every Tuesday and Thursday, saw an opportunity to stage a larger event on our attractive market. He has been a regular guest on BBC Radio with a vinyl valuation show and has made numerous guest appearances. He also writes for publications such as the Daily Telegraph.

Hitmix Radio will also be bringing music, fun and positive news from the event. Social distancing measures will be in place.

The record fair is the latest addition to the growing number of contemporary and popular visiting markets which enhance our traditional offer.

Cllr. Stephen Sweeney, Cabinet member for finance and efficiency, said: “Newcastle-under-Lyme is an ancient market town – it has been built around the presence of a bustling market for more than 800 years.

“We’re really proud of this history and we’re making great efforts to try new things to create a more vibrant and modern market. This is the first time the Council is holding a record fair and it’s something that I’m sure will appeal to many people, including families. We’ve also got more visiting markets in the pipeline so watch this space.

“This is a good opportunity to get out of the house, enjoy some fresh air, pick up some bargains and support the market traders. Parking on our car parks is also free on Sundays.”

There are very reasonable table charges for anyone wishing to sell their vinyls. For more information, please contact Dave on 07704300304.
