Bottle Smoke – 1st Annual Film Competition 2017

The organizers of BOTTLE SMOKE are looking for imaginative and original films, predominantly made by people in the Staffordshire area to be screened as part of BOTTLE SMOKE 2017 – 1st ANNUAL FILM COMPETITION.*  The films can be about anything at all! Fact or fiction, comedy or drama, news program or documentary.

​They have fantastic judges on board with this event, they include:

Peter Rudge – Peter has more than 25 years experience in the film industry and in 2011 was co-founder of the spin out company Grand Independent – a film production and distribution company based in Staffordshire. He began his career as a reader working for Hollywood studios including Universal and Columbia pictures. He has sold original screenplays to the major studios as well as working as a writer on feature adaptations. He moved into producing with recent credits including Associate Producer on feature films The Perfect Burger (2009) and Soulboy (2010). He is a member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and The British Kinomatograph, Sound and Television Society.

Ray Johnson MBE – Ray is Emeritus Professor of Film Heritage and Documentary at Staffordshire University. He is a Director of the Staffordshire Film Archive, the Mitchell Arts Centre Trust and the Media Archive for Central England.​ He is an independent documentary film-maker, actor and writer. His documentaries have been broadcast on most television channels and over 70 are available as DVDs (www.filmarchive.org.uk). Ray also produces exhibition video sequences for Museums and Art Galleries in the UK and abroad – and film sequences for theatre productions, including Singin’ in the Rain at Sadler’s Wells and Leicester Haymarket, Mack and Mabel at several theatres around the UK and sequences in many productions at the New Victoria Theatre. He has appeared as archive and film expert on various television programmes and continues to supply archive film material to many TV productions.

BOTTLE SMOKE 2017 will take place at the Stoke Repertory theatre on Saturday Sept 2nd 2017. The event will showcase the best short film entries of the year. All submissions will be judged before the winners are announced.

​DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: MIDNIGHT JULY 23RD 2017 – ANY ENTRIES AFTER THIS DATE WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED.

The finalists/winners will be notified by: Sunday 13th August 2017.

​All films shown on Sept 2nd will win a BOTTLE SMOKE trophy and will receive a digital laurel to use on all future merchandise, DVD’s, posters etc. to name your film as a ‘Runner-up’ or ‘Winner’ of the BOTTLE SMOKE competition. All entries to the final will also receive 2 x complimentary tickets to the event held at Stoke Rep on Saturday 2nd Sept 2017.
