Better Together to launch a dog café in Trent Vale

Better Together Community Support Group will launch its latest venture on 29th September.

The Cuppa Paws dog café will take place on Mondays and Fridays at their Community HQ in Trent Vale and will be run in partnership with Kamila’s Dog Training.

Owners booking a slot on the Monday sessions will be able to access advice about training and caring for their pets from an established professional for just £10.The Friday sessions will be a ‘welcoming space’ for dogs and their owners to socialize.

In the UK 36% of households own at least one pet dog, adding up to around 13.5 million. Figures produced by animal welfare charity PDSA show that the number of people who own pet dogs has risen consistently since 2011. The cost of owning a dog has increased dramatically in recent years and now stands at an estimated £3050 a year, this has been driven by rises in the cost of food and veterinary bills.

Owning a dog can have a beneficial impact on your health, research published by Harvard Medical School in 2022 shows that people who own a dog take an average more exercise every day than non-dog owners. It can also boost mental wellbeing by providing more opportunities to enjoy nature and connect with other people.

Dr Beth Frates, director of lifestyle, medicine and wellness at Massachusetts General Hospital said that “Pets provide us with a sense of belonging, connection, and contentment for which we all long,” adding that the “excitement dogs often display when you arrive home makes you feel special and loved”.

A spokesperson for Better Together said “we are really excited to be launching this new service for the community in partnership with a great local business” Adding that the Cuppa Paws Dog Café will “build on the Warm Welcoming Space and encourage a whole new community of people to come and enjoy the chance to socialize it offers”.

The Cuppa Paws Dog Café will take place at the Better Together Community HQ located at 4 Woodberry Close Trent Vale ST4 5LU every Monday and Friday morning between 10am and 12pm. The first session will take place on Monday 29th September. There will be free tea, coffee and snacks available for both dogs and their owners.
