Better Together Community Support Group hold multicultural festival on Sunday 31st August
Better Together Community Support Group will host a multicultural festival at their Community HQ in Trent Vale on Sunday 31st August.
Featured at the festival will be stalls selling food from cultures including those of Romania, the Philippines, and the Caribbean. There will also be homemade cakes for sale.
There will be children’s activities, a craft sale and stalls representing local charities and community groups including NORSCARF and North Staffs Carers Association.
A spokesperson for Better Together said the event was a “chance for people to get together, try some amazing food and have a good time”.
The festival is taking place in a year when Stoke-on-Trent is marking the centenary of attaining city status. Celebrating the diverse range of communities to be found in the city and the contribution they have made to shaping our unique character.
Nationally protests outside hotels being used to house people seeking asylum in the UK have highlighted tensions between communities that have been manipulated by groups promoting a right-wing agenda.
The protests are, the spokesperson for Better Together said, “not the real face of Britain”, adding that “every day in our communities we see people from around the world living and working together happily”.
The multicultural event would be, the spokesperson said, “a chance to celebrate the diversity that gives our city its character and its strength”.
Founded in 2018 Better Together Community Support Group works to support vulnerable families and individuals in Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme areas. It does so through a range of activities including hosting a Warm Welcome Space at its Community HQ.
The Better Together Community HQ is located at 4 Woodberry Close, Trent Vale, ST4 5LU and is open between 9:30 and 12:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The multicultural festival will take place at the Community HQ between 12:00 and 3:00.
