Pupils in Burslem get involved in a road safety stick up

Safety conscious pupils at a Burslem school have been helping a PCSO take action to discourage dangerous parking.

PCSO Connor Baxter enlisted the help of police cadets at Moorpark Junior School to produce posters highlighting the dangers caused by drivers parking inconsiderately near the school. During a day of action, PCSO Baxter supervised the pupils as they placed their posters on parked vehicles potentially posing a danger to pedestrians. The pupils were also joined on the day by parking wardens from Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

PCSO Baxter said: “The cadets were really keen to get involved with the initiative. They were very enthusiastic and produced some great posters. School drop off and pick up times are really busy with lots of people arriving at and leaving the premises. If you add in dangerous parking then you have the potential for a tragedy. The children all appreciated this and wanted to do something to help. I approached the school as I thought parents may listen to their children if they pointed out the road safety issues involved. Having the Parking wardens from the City council there helped add a bit more weight to the initiative, as well.

“The cadets did a really good job and both they and I hope their efforts will help to improve safety near the school.”
