Stoke Man Jailed After Heroin Found In Car Search

A Stoke-on-Trent man who was caught driving heroin between Redditch and Birmingham has been jailed.

Adnan Munawar, of Elm Street, Cobridge, was jailed for 2 years 10 months at Birmingham Crown Court (May 10) after pleading guilty to possessing heroin with intent to supply.

The court heard that officers from Central Motorway Policing Group (CMPG) were patrolling south of Birmingham on 26 October 2018 when they stopped a silver VW Passat.

The car was stopped on the Maypole bypass and subjected to a drugs search. A shoebox was found inside the car containing packages believed to be heroin. Munawar, aged 29, was arrested for possession of a class-A controlled drug.

A drugs expert examined the contents which were identified as 1.052kg of heroin, with a street value of between £20,000 and £26,000.

Munawar’s fingerprints were found on the shoebox. He had been living in Redditch at the time of the offences where officers discovered a further 471 grams of dextromethorphan, a cutting agent.

Detective Inspector Phil Bryan, of West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit, said: “Munawar was followed and stopped by our officers. He thought he could get away with moving a huge amount of heroin but he now has to reflect on that in prison. We will not tolerate drug dealing in our communities.”
